Method as extracted

  1. Mix the hemlock and linseed meal, and add them to the water gradually, with constant stirring.
  2. Bruise in a stone mortar, and press out the juice; heat it gradually to 130°, and separate the green colouring matter by a calico filter.
  3. Heat the strained liquor to 200° to coagulate the albumen, and again filter.
  4. Mix the extract of hemlock and ipecacuanha, and add sufficient treacle to form a pill mass.
  5. Bruise the hemlock in a stone mortar; press out the juice; and to every three measures of juice add one of the spirit.
  6. Keep it in a cool place.
