Method as extracted

  1. Add the peroxide of iron to the Burgundy pitch and lead plaster, previously melted together, and stir the mixture constantly till it stiffens on cooling.
  2. Mix the solution of persulphate of iron with a pint of the distilled water, aiid add this gradually to the solution of soda, stirring them constantly and h'iskly.
  3. Let the mixture stand for two hours, stirring it occasionally, then 'put it on a calico filter, and ivhen the liqu id has drained away, wash the preciin- tate with distilled tvater, until what passes through the filter ceases to give a precipitate ivith chloride of barium.
